“Mr. and Mrs. Smith” featured Angelina Jolie playing nice alongside her future real-life husband Brad Pitt. In “Salt” she’s bad to the bone. Evelyn Salt is a seemingly ordinary women working for the CIA. As a highly decorated agent she seems to bleed red, white and blue. However a captured Russian spy rocks her world by calling her a traitor of the U.S.A.

As shocking as this may seem beautiful Evelyn Salt might just be the sexiest femme fatale the cinema has seen for a long time. How could a seemingly normal woman be implicated in destroying white picket fences all across America? Well watch and learn.

Salt may be a hardcore martial arts expert, but she does have a soft spot in her heart. These feelings are directed towards her husband, an arachnologist (one who studies spiders) who disappears the same day she is labeled a traitor.
The film’s similarities to The Bourne Series of films are inevitable. Just like Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is motivated to find his identity while evading capture, Salt wants answers regarding her husband’s disappearance while trying to clear her name, no matter the cost. Salt is hungry for the truth and her appetite for violence is huge. The numerous action scenes in this film complement the plot’s progression nicely.

The action in this movie is big, real big, brunette super spy killing, swat team members with makeshift bazookas big. Yet it doesn’t come across as mindless or incredibly cheesy. The film takes chances and doesn't come away completely unaffected.

Among the weak spots are a general lack of character development and a tendency to be way over the top with its action sequences. Though I can’t deny that Angelina Jolie knows how to kick butt. This is a fierce tour de force of a film and in a summer of forgettable flicks “Salt” has no trouble standing out.

“Salt” was directed by Phillip Noyce from a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer.
